Introducing Our Neve 5088

For nearly 20 years Colorado Sound Studios has been creating world-class recordings on our Euphonix CS2000 console, and while it has aided us in recording some of the biggest acts in the world, it has recently been replaced by one of the most sought after boards in the audio world, the Rupert Neve 5088 Shelford Console. This 32-channel recording console is the culmination of Rupert’s vast circuitry knowledge of which has brought us some of the best gear in the world, like the Neve 1073, 8058, and 1084 to name a few.

The Shelford 5052 Mic Preamp/Inductor EQ brings the character of the classic 1073 module to every channel. The EQ stage utilizes a three-band inductor Equalizer with a selectable Shelf/Peak Filter for the highs, based on the 1073, and the lows, inspired by the 1064.  The midrange is controlled by a Parametric filter, also based on the 1073. While the EQ section is inspired by the classics, this design is a modern topology with components only recent available. In addition, the 5052 also provides the Silk Red/Blue and Texture control, allowing the opportunity to introduce distortion of mostly second order harmonics without any chance of overloading the input.

There’s a lot to be said about this board; its’ sound, feel, and each minor detail about the mechanics that makes it great. What’s really important is that this console gives our students the opportunity to learn and work on the same board as their heroes and experience the magic of Rupert Neve circuitry for themselves.
